Local 502’s Apprenticeship Program will accept applications every year from September 1st through December 31st. The application link will be posted on our website, during this time frame only. Once your application is submitted, we will contact you to come in and complete aptitude testing. All applicants will then be scheduled for an interview that will take place around January, and selections for the incoming class of apprentices will be made in the months to follow. Below is the cover page for the application which details the documents you will need to apply, as well as the requirements to maintain enrollment as an apprentice.
REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY FOR ENTRANCE
(AS LISTED IN THE QUALIFICATIONS OF APPLICANTS FOR APPRENTICESHIP IN THE NATIONAL GUIDELINE STANDARDS FOR APPRENTCIESHIP)
1. Must provide a valid email address. THIS WILL BE OUR PRIMARY METHOD OF CONTACT to schedule a Work Keys test and/or interview. (Please check your spam folders for correspondence)
2. A $40 non-refundable application fee is required when submitting this online application. A $1.50 transaction fee will be added to your total.
3. Please upload all required documents. Failure to comply will be considered an incomplete application, and will not be permitted to test/interview. If, currently attending High School, please provide a copy of the most recent unofficial transcript, and turn in a copy of diploma with official transcripts upon graduation.) Please bring the following documents to your scheduled Work Keys examination or interview:
a. If you have a military background, a military transfer or discharge form DD-214 is required
b. Must provide a simple resume’
c. Please include any trade related certifications you may have acquired
4. Must be at least 18 years of age to be dispatched to work, 17 year-olds may apply.
5. Employment is contingent on a satisfactory background check.

REQUIREMENTS TO MAINTAIN ENROLLMENT AS AN APPRENTICE
1. Each apprentice must be available to attend school as scheduled by the Training Center.
2. Each apprentice must attend related training classes and maintain an acceptable average in those classes. A minimum of 246 training hours per year will be required.
3. Every apprentice must serve as an apprentice under probationary status for a period of 1 year.
4. Every apprentice must attend the apprenticeship program for a 5 year period. This period includes 9,000 hours of on-the-job training. (1,800 hours/year, for 5 years)
5. Each apprentice must report to class and work on a consistent basis.
6. Every apprentice must provide their own transportation to and from the job site/school.
7. Every apprentice must work under the direction of a Journeyman on the job site. All duties must be performed to the satisfaction of the supervisor and/or instructor.
8. If accepted, the cost of tuition will be $200/year, for the full 5 year term of the apprenticeship.
9. All rules and regulations must be abided as standardized by the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) of Local 502. By signing below, you acknowledge that you have read and understand the above requirements expected of you once you have been accepted into the Local 502 Joint Education and Training Apprenticeship Program.
